In this tutorial we'll see how to make an unfolding polygons effect to reveal a surface, using MoGraph.
I got inspired for this effect from Paul Clements' awesome "Headphones Breakdown" video.
At this year's International CES (Consumer Electronics Show), which took place in Las Vegas, Ericsson's CEO Hans Vestberg delivered a keynote addressing the future of "The Networked Society".
London based Global Brand Experience Agency, Jack Morton, contacted Onesize for creating a 2+ minute brand film for Ericsson, which in a nutshell explains where Ericsson is coming from and where it's going.
The film opens Hans' Keynote by introducing Ericsson's "Networked Society" to the audience.
A fully CG, animated film is the result, scored and sound designed by Echolab.

Unraveling the world of UVs. There is a lot to know about working with UVs, and I don't know it all. But I try and explain enough for the average user to start working with it! Also I model a piggy bank.

I first watched Manga's cult classic "Ghost in the Shell" when I was a teen but only recently realised that the film's city background is actually based on Hong Kong - my current place of residence.
When it was made in 1995, it depicted a grimy, futuristic city. Now, 16 years later, it's interesting to see how Hong Kong has physically changed. So I set out to try and recreate particular scenes from the film. The biggest differences between the film and now is that Hong Kong no longer has those awesome low-flying airplanes (airport moved in 1998) nor do we have canals and river boats - though we do have tramcar systems which is the obvious influence for Masamune. Not every shot could be faithfully recreated. Simply because it was an animation! But when you do a comparison there are the obvious locations: http://vimeo.com/33731256
I left the scenes with Motoko Kusanagi for narrative reasons (and I couldn't be arsed looking for an actress!). Another note is the first two shots of the planes, they were ripped and up-rezzed from a YouTube video by airboyd. There is no way I could have recreated those scenes yet I wanted to show people just how crazily low they flew.
This was shot with Sony NEX5-N in 1080p/50fps with 30mm squarefront and 50mm roundfront Lomo anamorphic lenses.
Special thanks to Pete Furkidsinhk and his "fur kid" Cream.

In this tutorial, we imitate some promos for MBC2 that was originally created by a motion graphic artist named Alexander Grinke. This promo had a letter inflate then explode like a balloon. To do this, we will use a combination of rigid body dynamics, soft body dynamics, cloth and tear simulations to replicate the effect. It's actually quite simple and a lot of fun to do. Please check it out and view the end of this tutorial to see how the final product came out. Also, please remember that this was built in R12, so prior versions of C4D cannot read the starter or finished files. Enjoy
We made this to brighten up your day.

Furry monsters cuddling, welcoming the viewer to a brand new series of MTV idents from 1 July 2011 – motion design studio Sehsucht of Berlin/Germany has created and animated „Close & Caring“, one of six new MTV idents (duration: 20 sec.). „Close & Caring“ conveys a look and feel that equals the warmth and feeling of a hug, as simple as holding hands or sinking under your duvet. Sehsucht created the cute little beasts, developed the story concept, built the vignettes, covered the overall production and post-production (editing, retouching, color-correction, special effects), and created the print templates.

Bela: L'Homme Chat is short documentary shot during Cannes Film Festival 2011.
"Bela" follows the day in the life of a street performer named Bela Erdei or "the cat man". Bela, a recognizable face to some, travels hours by train throughout the south of France to perform with his affectionate house cats. An affable and eccentric character who has a real passion for what he does.

Project: Tribute to Rene
Client: flipEvil
Music and Sound Design: Box of Toys Audio
Background:
We joined forces with our friend flipEvil (http://flipevil.com) to create this composition in tribute to the Belgian surrealist artist, Rene Magritte.
Approach:
Given the context we wanted to take a very traditional and unadorned route, and so composed a bespoke piano piece in and around the motion. The piano leads the way in terms of pace and characterization, backed by subtle sound design that reinforces the dream-like state of the visuals.
A short motion piece where typography meets translucent, colourful, synthetic sex toy aesthetics.
Music : Machinedrum 'make me'

Project executed within the framework of a collective exhibit organized by Cecile Briand and Isabelle Mayaud.
“The a-bit-to-much-perfect characters seem to set apart from their idyllic background in order to materialize, embody their selves.
Volumes outline their shape, they settle down. A moment.
…
But the scenes, skins, clothes, are just a dented relief, where embossed folds of a very used book travel.
Pretend-to-be bodies are nothing but unreal, nothing but dead.
Unable to exist anywhere else than in the hollow of the pages of a wrinkled book, they collapse after a long fall, until they lose themselves, and disappear in the plump and passive bounce of their papier-mâché flesh.
Only sad body parts and décor pieces remain."
Sarah Zhiri

The leader for Imagine 2011: the 27th Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival.
Based on Iris van der Eijken's artwork. After the well-recieved leader of last year, I was asked to create one for this year. Again based on the festival poster it is somewhat similar in approach as last year's, but different. My aim was to make the flat image 3D, really making use of all the layers of the psd-file.

Buck is an ordinary guy. Well, if you accept the "deer head" thing.
Today, Buck is going to spend the afternoon with his girlfriend who's so happy to see him (she's pretty much happy always). But when Buck finds out that her father is not the tolerant and sympathetic guy he expected, the Sunday afternoon turns really bad. Really bad. Like baaaaaaad bad.

Many thanks to all my friends for your support.
The purpose of this video is to create an emotional response out of the most basic and bare elements. A badly exposed picture (that London weather is tricky to photograph) and a handful of loops.
The original picture is treated originally in Photoshop and then sent to cinema to create the actual animation.
AfterEffects is used to add all the effects like depth of field, snow, text treatment, some camera movements and finally colour grading.
GarageBand was used to sync the video to a series of loops.
Hope you like it!

A really big thank you to everyone who has commented on my showreel or taken the time to view it, I really appreciate it. :D
“Locus” is an short experimental animated film that reflects the way that I see things. I have always perceived the world not as a photographic reality, but rather as lines that outline physical shapes. Because of this, as a designer, I am fascinated with how a single simple element like a line can express so many different things, and how collections of lines can create shapes, forms and beautiful motions. Locus shows moments of motion that convey this vision.
From concept to finish, created by Masaki Yokochi.

synopsis
We wanted to make a series of moving sculptures that take inspiration from the great surrealists like dali and in particular his lobster telephone. We have tried to build intriguing objects that leave you wanting to see more. These objects are mechanical but at the same time organic in their movements. They are a collection of textures, objects and movements that create images that we wanted to see.
